Increasing Children’s Independence at Les Enfants Inshes ELC

Les Enfants Inshes ELC have been working to increase children’s independence.  They have created an area where children can access a visual play dough recipe and then make their own play dough.  Several children can now do this independently.  This is giving children the opportunity to develop their skills in many areas including; reading, measuring, co-operating, taking turns and problem solving.  The children have even discovered that when the play dough becomes too sticky they need to add flour or vice versa!

Learning experiences such as these which extend and sustain interest, help children make decisions and develop their creativity, resilience and independence very well. Within opportunities like this, children have a key role in leading their own learning within a supportive nurturing environment.
