Competition for Early Years Settings – Tackling Gender Stereotyping in the Early Years

Competition for early years settings! £100 worth of books and resources to be won!

What stories are in your book nook?

After auditing over 3,000 books in nursery libraries across Scotland in terms of gender and diversity inclusion, Zero Tolerance has discovered that only 14% of the book collections passed the audit.

The audit looked for elements such as: female-lead storylines, inclusion of diverse characters, and non-stereotypical character framing.

Haven’t considered it? You should audit too!

It is important for children to be surrounded by stories that reflect and represent, not only themselves, but the diversity in the world. By limiting the stories, they are exposed to, children are less likely to reach their full potential.

We are inviting nurseries and early years settings to join our short campaign to bring more gender balance into children’s libraries. This would involve undertaking an audit of your early years book collections.
