All courses run by the Scottish Development Education Centres are highly interactive, both to model the participatory global citizenship approach, and also so they can introduce activities and methodologies for use in the classroom. This course will make use of breakout rooms and simple digital participation tools (all necessary instructions will be given!). It can be hard to participate fully on a phone or tablet, so they highly recommend you join the course on a desktop or laptop computer, with your microphone and video enabled.

These courses will be held on Zoom to make use of the interactive capabilities of this platform. Depending on your Local Authority, it might be easier to access the course on your own personal computer rather than a council one.

Need support to understand and enact The Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019

On Monday 1 April 2024, the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 will be enacted and Regulation 15 of the Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011 will be repealed.

New guidance – health protection guidance for children and young people settings, including education.

On 14 March, the Scottish Health Protection Network (SHPN) published new national health protection guidance for children and young people settings, including education. This guidance provides a single source of information and advice and replaces all previous Scottish Government guidance on reducing the risks of COVID-19 in schools (including childminding and school age childcare settings) early learning and childcare services, universities, colleges and community learning and development providers. It also replaces the previous 2018 SHPN guidance on infection prevention and control in day childcare settings.

The Scottish Government is hosting a webinar on Tuesday 16 April from 19:00 – 20:00 which is open to all school teachers, staff and local authority leads, as well as all ELC staff, practitioners and managers. The session, delivered by Public Health Scotland (PHS) and Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland, will provide an overview of the new guidance, information on the key changes and set out messaging around infection, prevention and control, as well as an opportunity for questions.
