Get the bairns oot! An outdoor kindergarten in Norway

If you are interested in evaluating and developing your outdoor learning then why not take the time to look at this latest resource posted on the National Improvement Hub.

Through a series of 10 short video clips, Norwegian Kindergarten owner/manager Turid Boholm of Bukkenspranget Natur Barnehage shares different aspects of her setting’s outdoor learning approach. Turid discusses the rationale behind the approach and the impact this has on her children and their families. Questions are linked to each video to encourage Early learning and childcare (ELC) practitioners and leaders to reflect on current provision in relation to these clips.

Schemas: Learning through play

SchemasHave you ever watched a child at play and wondered why they are continually repeating certain actions? If so, it is possible that the child is engaging in schematic play.

Schematic play happens when babies, toddlers and young children are involved in repeating actions or certain behaviours as they explore the world around them and try to find out how things work. These specific actions or behaviours are called ‘schemas’. They can vary from child to child and some children never display schematic play or behaviours
