Due to the current restrictions, our Transition programme across the early level will be a little different this year. In normal circumstances, our pre-school children would be given the opportunity to visit the Primary 1 Classrooms throughout the year with a focus on our core curriculum areas each term (literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing). However, as you know, this year we have had to adapt many experiences for the children and with that in mind, we look forward to providing these opportunities virtually.
This term our focus has been on Literacy and we have joined Primary 1 for ‘live’ story sessions through Google Meet. It allowed for the children to see the classrooms, meet the current teachers, and to discuss the characters and events of the story, as well as share their likes and dislikes.
In addition, as a school, each class has been learning a Christmas song in BSL, so we also had the opportunity to perform ours to the Primary 1s and they performed to us too.
Furthermore, as part of our transition programme at Lochardil, we pair our pre-school children with Primary 6 buddies. Earlier this week, the ELC were ‘introduced’ to Primary 6 through a Google Meet where we performed our BSL song to them and shared some of our recent learning from this term on ‘nocturnal animals’.
