CPL supports a workforce that is capable of designing, delivering, evaluating and improving high quality care and service.
The workforce operates in a constantly changing, challenging and complex environment. Developing new knowledge, understanding, skills and ways of thinking will help you to adopt new and flexible ways of working which are based on evidence and contribute to improving services.
The SSSC requires staff to engage in Continuous Professional Learning every year. As part of your SSSC annual declaration, you will be asked to confirm that you have undertaken relevant CPL which covers all of the core learning elements in the SSSC CPL model. If they choose to sample your CPL, this will be submitted through the current process on MySSSC and endorsed by your supervisor or line manager. The SSSC have a CPL website that will help you find learning opportunities relevant to your role and career stage to meet your CPL requirements.
This page sets out to support Early Years Practitioners and other staff who work in Early Learning and Childcare in finding and accessing high quality professional learning materials. The materials can be used individually, or in groups – either as a self-study or led by setting managers. Learning materials can be accessed through this website and can be easily be found by using the ‘search’ function at the top of the page and typing in the topic you are interested in learning about.
CPL opportunities in Highland are set out in the Highland ELC Learning Framework.
CPL activity only improves practice for individuals or settings if it is chosen based on robust self-evaluation and there is a plan for the implementation of learning.
The Framework provides guidance on self-evaluation and signposts learning that can address identified needs. It also sets out the mandatory or core learning that all practitioners and managers should have.
It contains links to the Highland CPD Calendar, where some training can be booked, and also to the SSSC directory of online learning.
EYESOs and Childcare Managers can support planning for CPL as needed.
